Since 1997, David has been Headteacher of Pond Meadow School in Surrey, working with pupils between the ages of 2 and 19 with severe, complex and profound needs including autism and medical needs. When he took over, Pond Meadow was deemed by Ofsted to be a failing school, in it's last two inspections, Pond Meadow has been graded as outstanding.
David started his teaching career as head of Physics in a mainstream inner city Secondary School. It's hardly surprising that he didn't start on the bottom rung of the teaching ladder – before qualifying as a teacher, David had gained a BSc in Physics at Nottingham, an MSc in Space Science from Leicester and a PhD in Astrophysics from UCL! He also tutored for the Open University and was a Post Doctoral Research Associate at UCL tutoring research students towards their PhD's.
David is passionate about equality of opportunity, respect for pupils abilities and needs, inclusion and providing education that creates real life chances.
