Andy Nowak

TRUSTEE

Andy is Deputy Head at a large, autism-specific school in Shepherd's Bush, West London. Queensmill is routinely judged outstanding by Ofsted and a beacon school for the National Autistic Society and Inclusion Quality Mark. Andy takes a key role in parent liaison, working with other schools, teacher education and supporting local authorities in strategy and approach to autism provision. Initially he trained as a secondary history teacher and started teaching at The Royal Ballet School over a decade ago.

In addition to his role at Queensmill he is a visiting lecturer at the University of Roehampton, delivering a masters-level module on autism, and supervising dissertations as part of a MA in Special and Inclusive Education. Before teacher training, Andy worked as a Youth Worker supporting disabled children at summer playschemes. He also has travelled to and volunteered in Africa; most recently, he has been travelling to Sierra Leone, following an initial visit with Disability Africa. In Sierra Leone, he has been supporting the development of the Browne-Penn School and the Sierra Leone Autistic Society in Freetown.

Andy has been a Trustee of DA since September 2019 - we are delighted to have his experience and expertise at Disability Africa.
